So what is the vision of St John’s youth department?
The youth department is key to the work of St John’s, Wimborne. We aspire to help bring the reality of Jesus Christ to young people of St John’s and the local town. We aspire to equip young people to be ready to share their faith with friends and family. We understand that this is an important age at which people make a commitment to Jesus.
Targeting the school years, of mainly, 6 to 13 (11 to 18 year olds) age group, we aim to:
- Give every young person the opportunity to say yes or no to Jesus.
- Support them from the moment they join St John’s youth group.
- Help each member to achieve their full potential.
- Disciple and train those who have already come to faith, introduce Jesus to those who have not.
- Encourage each young person to relate to and support one another.
- Reach out to those outside the church and/or with no Christian background or experience.
- Help their communication skills with others, including other young people and the leaders.
- Start training young people to be the leaders of the future.
- Give responsibility to young people
How do we plan to do this?
- Provide a safe environment for a few hours each week, in which to meet, learn and grow.
- Establish small communities in which members can relate to one another on a peer to peer level, and with leaders.
- Pastorally care for the individual. Be available outside of the week to week meetings to talk and pray.
- Encourage and challenge one another.
- Support and care for one another.
- Actively encourage young people to bring friends to weekly meetings and socials.
- Run training for young leaders.
